An All-British Lineup Including Elgar’s Famous Enigma
Few mysteries in classical music are as enduringly perplexing as the origin of the “Enigma” theme in Elgar’s Enigma Variations. Elgar himself described the theme as a “dark saying” meant to remain “unguessed.” More than 120 years later, audiences, musicians, and scholars continue to puzzle over this musical riddle, with no definitive answer in sight. On the first half of the program legendary British euphonium soloist David Childs takes the stage for the Asian premiere of Sir James MacMillan’s Euphonium Concerto. British conductor Jason Lai leads the Thailand Philharmonic in this all-British program.
