An Alpine Symphony
An Epic Conclusion to Our 20th Season
For our season finale, the Thailand Phil invites you on a breathtaking mountain-climbing expedition with Richard Strauss’s Alpine Symphony. The last of his epic tone poems, this masterpiece harnesses the power of over 100 musicians to capture the grandeur and might of nature. A master of orchestral color, Strauss vividly depicts every step of the journey—the pre-dawn departure, majestic snow-capped peaks, a rushing waterfall, the triumph of reaching the summit, and a violent thunderstorm that follows us down the mountainside. Strauss eventually leads us safely back home, exhausted yet exhilarated from the day’s adventures. Opening the concert, Maestro St.Clair sets the stage with Mozart’s Haffner Symphony, a brilliant and celebratory work bursting with festive energy and fiery spirit.
